Library

In 2012, the Library was re-located to the second floor of the College Center at the front of the campus facing the Uliga Road. The new look library furniture and items were donated by the ARRA Grant of the USDA. The library offers services to students and the community. Uliga Campus library and its branch libraries in Arrak, Jaluit and Kwajalein provide a total holding volume of over 15,000 books, journals and Audio Visual materials that support the courses, research and reading enjoyment. The library subscribes to newspapers from Palau, Guam, Northern Marianas, USA and the Marshall Islands. Over 2,000 videos and films are accessible for viewing in a Video Conference Room within the library which also caters for meetings.

Maps, microfilms, posters, and reference materials offer both general and specialized information resources. As a learning center, the library provides N-computers for student research to search on an automated Catalog, access basic online reference tools on the internet as well as search on electronic databases like EBSCO, TumbleBookLibrary and TumbleBookCloud. The EBSCO Host databases, provide up-to-date indexing and full-text articles for thousands of general and academic journals. There is a Reading Room known as the American Corner which has elementary and young adult books donated by the American Embassy. There is also an extensive paperback fiction collection for leisure reading.

The Micronesian Collection houses in-depth works of historical, traditional and cultures of the Micronesian area especially the Marshall Islands. The articles, books, government proceedings, reports and documents about the Marshall Islands and Micronesia are only accessible for in-house research. References in the collection are included in the library’s catalog and other materials are indexed in the Micronesian Collection Reference Files (MCRF) database by keyword, subject, geographical location, and author.

The library has a seating capacity of 165 in the main library and 30 students in the Video/Conference room at a time. Tables, study carrels and computers are located throughout the library. Instructors can select materials to be put on reserve for use in the library as part of the CLOSED RESERVE collection. Scanning, printing and photocopying services are available at a cost to library users. Library policies, rules and regulations including library opening hours are available on the college website Library page and around the library walls. Library Orientation and Tours can be organized with the Teaching Librarian during opening hours.

Nuclear Institute

The Nuclear Institute was established by CMI in 1997 to promote research and public understanding on the history of nuclear weapons and their cultural and diplomatic effects, including the post-World War II U.S. nuclear testing program in the Marshall Islands. The Institute is currently located in the in the Library on the second floor of the College Center and sponsors an active Nuclear Club that allows student to honor nuclear survivors, understand the RMI’s nuclear legacy, and produce a radio show.
