Health Services

Basic health services are available to the College community at both our Uliga and Arrak campuses. Our Health Centers is managed by a full time registered nurse and an assistant nurse. The nurse is on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to our students living in the Residence Halls, services are available every day to the rest of the community from Mondays to Fridays.

CMI students who are RMI citizens are automatically covered under the RMI Basic Health Care Plan at the Majuro Hospital. Students from Palau, CNMI, FSM, Guam and the United States will be required to pay a $20 doctor’s fee for every hospital visit for their first year, every year after that will be at $5.00 per visit.

The on campus health center also have dispensary services and can assist students with chronic illness, minor injuries as well as preventive health care.

Services

Medical and nursing care are provided during the clinic hours. Students are seen by school nurses any time they walk into the health services clinic. Health Fee is charged to all students during the registration, $40 for Full-Time and $25 for Part-Time. No additional payment is required when visiting the health clinic. Students are responsible for their referral fees and their emergency visit fees at the main hospital.
 

Dispensary

A select group of commonly used prescription and over-the-counter medications are stocked in the health center. If a student requires a different medication such as antibiotics, a student must be medically evaluated by a Physicians at the main hospital before any medication will be dispensed. This includes over-the-counter medications. Annual influenza vaccine also available with no charge. Students are charged a health fee for these medications.

Prescription Refill Request

Prescription refill request can be done with the help from the school nurse. The following documents must be provided in advance.

  1. Hospital Number
  2. Basic Health Care Card ( $5.00 for Marshallese and $20.00 for non Marshallese
  3. Pick up a prescription refill request form the Health clinic during the hours of operation

Laboratory

Limited in-house lab tests are available. Basic lab tests that can be provided include pregnancy test and random blood sugar level test.

Sexual Health Care

Services include counseling for safe sex practices, contraceptive counseling by providing optional family planning methods such as (Depo-Provera injection/pills), Emergency Pills, testing and treatment of sexual transmitted infection and, pregnancy option counseling.

Other Services

  1. Administration of the seasonal influenza vaccination and immunization updates.
  2. On-campus health education, awareness and well-being program/activates.
  3. Screening of chronic problems such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity and others. 

Health Education Programs/Activities

The health services clinic also provides health awareness activity on the wide range of health issues. The Campus Clinic plans and organizes activities such as the Health Fair, the World Diabetes Day, World HIV Day and others.

After Hours and Emergency Care

If you are on campus and having a medical emergency, please dial 625-6416/528-6416 or call the Hospital at 625-4144/528-2634.

For students residing in the residence hall: inform your Residence Hall Coordinator to notify the school nurse at 455-0418/455-8389. If the nurse did not respond immediately, call the campus security at 625-6416/528-6416 or dial emergency at 625-4144.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for services provided by the health service clinic?
All registered CMI students, Adult Basic Education (ABE) students, Upward Bound (UB) students are eligible for services. In addition, college faculty and staff are eligible for services.

How can a student get assistance from the health service clinic?
All the health service clinic customers are on a walk-in basis. Students are seen on a first come first serve basis. However, there may be times that a student is prioritized more than other waiting students, depending on the severity of their problem.

Can I get referrals to receive hospital services?
Any transferred cases to hospital must be transferred along with the referral form. See referral form click here.

I don’t want a stranger knowing my information. Is my information confidential?
Student’s privacy is at our utmost concern. Any data that we received and use on our services are kept as a confidential record.

Will I be able to receive a medical note if I am sick and I have class? So I can be excused?
The health center does provide medical certificates for the students who missed class due to illness or injury and if it is an emergency. However, students must notify their instructors that they are unable to attend their classes before coming to the Campus Clinic. Any students that notify the nurse office about their where about on the school day. The nurse will notify/email their instructor based on their class schedule. Even if a students fails to inform in touch with their instructors, they will still receive medical assistance from the school nurse. The Medical Note is NOT the final decision for the student to be excused. It is the decision of the instructor to determine whether or not if the students should be excused or not.  We encourage you to follow  the direction provided by the instructors course syllabus.
