The CMI Work Study Program

Program Description

The CWS program provides jobs for eligible students. Awarding is based on a first-come firstserve basis and aid is given to the students with the greatest need first. Generally, a student is placed in a job on campus and CMI pays the standard minimum wage. The net income a student receives (after taxes and job-related expenses) is used to meet a student’s direct and indirect educational expenses.

CWS Award Policies

To be awarded CWS, a student must be referred by the Financial Aid and the Business Office. Students should be officially enrolled, and registered for a maximum of 2 courses or 7 credits. Requests for additional funding will be considered on a case-by-case basis upon reviewing student eligibility and availability of funding.

Placement

Students seeking CWS employment must review the CWS Job Announcements on the CMI website and contact the supervisor of the position they are interested in for an interview. If the student is a potential match for the department, the supervisor notifies financial aid by submitting the CWS Request Form. Upon receipt of the CWS Request form, CMI-FAO will determine eligibility and, if eligible, email the student and the CWS Supervisor a Work Study Notification.

Payment Policies

All CMI – CWS positions are hourly employment. The wage rate is $3.00 per hour for 2020-2021. Students should submit their timesheets or other reporting requirements specified by a department/division supervisor to the Human Resources Office accurately on time. They are paid on a bi-weekly basis, in accordance with the CMI employees’ payroll schedule. The work period follows the same work period as CMI employees. Students may not be asked or allowed to volunteer any hours in their CWS position; payment must be received for all services performed. CWS students are only allowed to work up to a maximum of 40 hours bi-weekly. When a student reaches the specific expiration date on their contracts s/he can no longer be paid from CWS funds and must cease working (unless employed under other funding). Students are paid via direct deposit or checks.
