I began my academic journey at the College of the Marshall Islands in Spring 2020, graduating in 2022 with an Associate of Science in Elementary Education, followed by a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education in 2024. Like many students, my time at CMI was a period of growth, discovery, and learning how to navigate both academic expectations and personal responsibilities. CMI provided a supportive and familiar environment where I was encouraged to develop confidence in myself and my abilities. Through my coursework, interactions with faculty, and access to student support services, I built a strong foundation in education and student advocacy, which shaped my passion for inclusive and culturally responsive teaching. CMI helped me understand that education is not just about content, but about the people, especially recognizing and valuing the diverse experiences, strengths, and needs of all students.

During my time as a student, I learned the importance of belonging, mentorship, and community in higher education. The support I received from instructors and staff played a critical role in helping me believe that my goals were attainable, even when the journey felt challenging. CMI strengthened my commitment to serving Marshallese students and communities by showing me the impact educators and advocates can have when they lead with empathy, respect, and cultural understanding. These experiences encouraged me to continue pushing myself academically and professionally, while remaining grounded in my roots and responsibilities to my community.

Inspired by my experiences at CMI, I continued my studies abroad at the University of Sydney, where I completed a Master of Education specializing in Special and Inclusive Education in November 2025. CMI laid the groundwork that prepared me for this next step, equipping me with the skills, confidence, and purpose needed to succeed beyond the Marshall Islands. Today, I apply the values and lessons I gained at CMI in my work supporting students, promoting accessibility, and advocating for equitable education. The foundation built at CMI continues to guide my commitment to creating inclusive educational spaces and expanding opportunities for students in the Marshall Islands, reminding me that meaningful change begins with believing in students and walking alongside them in their journeys.
